Air Traffic Controllers for the Air Navigation Services Providers of Latvia and Estonia will be trained in Finland

2018 29 June,

Dāvids Tauriņš, Chairman of the Board of the SJSC “Latvijas gaisa satiksme” (LGS), Tanel Rautits, Chairman of “Lennuliiklusteeninduse” AS, (Estonian Air Navigation Service, EANS) and Raine Luojus, CEO of "Air Navigation Services Finland Oy" (ANS Finland), participated in a Signing Ceremony of Agreements on Air Traffic Controllers Training for air navigation service providers in Latvia and Estonia.

"Air traffic controller is a prestige but a rather uncommon profession. These specialists in Latvia are only employed by LGS and therefore the training is held when our company requires new specialists. Today the aviation industry is growing rapidly so we require new professionals who will be trained by our partners from Finland”, explained Chairman of the Board of LGS Dāvids Tauriņš.

This spring "ANS Finland" won the international competition on tender for training of 10 new Air Traffic Controllers for LGS. EANS has also signed an agreement with ANS Finland to begin an air traffic controller training programme in October 2018 and August 2019.

Training of air traffic controllers is expensive, therefore the close cooperation of NEFAB (North European Functional Airspace Block) partners has been of crucial importance and has led to the best terms and conditions for the training.

Raine Luojus, CEO of "Air Navigation Services Finland Oy" added:

Training of the ATCOs for LGS will be held in Finland and will last for 11 months with following 8 months of training in Riga. LGS will provide the students ATCOs with scholarships and accommodation in Finland and, when the training course is completed, LGS will guarantee interesting and well-paid job with comprehensive social benefits package. It is expected that two of the new controllers will work in Liepaja airport.
