On 1st of December, Davids Taurins, CEO of Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme was elected as the Chairman of the CEO Board of the NEFAB Programme, a cooperation between four air navigation service providers in the North European Functional Airspace Block – ANS Finland (Finland), Avinor (Norway), EANS (Estonia), and LGS (Latvia).
2017 04 December,
Commencing the project on a new air traffic control (ATC) tower in Riga airport SJSC “Latvijas gaisa satiksme” in accordance with the Public Procurement Law has announced a sketch design competition “The visual image of the future air traffic control tower for Riga airport”. The aim of the Competition is to obtain a high-quality architectural solution and a functionally well-developed sketch design for the ATC Tower observing the principle of optimal and economic use of financial resources which would meet the requirements set out in the Brief and the Designing Programme.

Continuing their collaboration with the Estonian air navigation service provider “Estonian Air Navigation Services” (EANS) to provide the exchange of aeronautical information between air traffic control centres of Riga and Tallinn for the next five years,” Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme” (LGS) and EANS have agreed on a new joint procurement of communication channels and equipment.

The Borealis Alliance, the award-winning collaboration of nine North European Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) of which Latvijas gaisa satiksme (LGS) is a founding member, celebrates its fifth anniversary this month.

Data from state joint stock company “Latvijas gaisa satiksme” (LGS) show that on 2 June 2017 a new record was set in the number of flights lead through the Latvian airspace in a day – 900.

Today, on May 25th the North European Free Route Airspace Programme, NEFRA celebrates its successful completion.

2017 21 April,
By 2023, the Rīga International Airport will have a new and modern air traffic control centre, and the state stock company Latvian Air Traffic (LGS) has begun work on it. Construction is to begin next year, in 2018, and the tower will open with state-of-the-art technologies in 2023.
2017 20 March,
On 15 March, air navigation specialists gathered in Riga, including the heads or deputy heads of air navigation service providers (ANSP) from all nine “Borealis Alliance” member states. The goal of the meeting was to discuss what has been achieved during the nearly five years of operation of “Borealis”, share the latest news and propose new initiatives.
2017 17 January,
The air navigation service providers of Latvia and Estonia – state joint stock company “Latvijas gaisa satiksme” (LGS) and "Lennuliiklusteeninduse Aktsiaselts" (Estonian Air Navigation Services - EANS) – are ready to work together in developing an air navigation management solution – a Remote Control Tower (rTWR).
On Friday, 13 January, the joint commitment was solidified in a cooperation memorandum on the development of the rTWR signed by Dāvids Tauriņš, Chairman of the Board at LGS, and Tanel Rautits, Chairman of the Board at EANS.
