Air navigation service providers in Northern European countries signed an agreement on the 1st December 2011 regarding airspace cooperation. The agreement was signed by the air navigation service providers of Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Iceland.
2011 01 December,
All documentation that is required for the declaration and establishment of NEFAB was submitted to the European Commission collectively by all NEFAB member states in December 2011. The NEFAB project is now well in advance of the requirements described in the Implementing Rule (EC Requirement 176/2011) that states that the information shall be submitted not later than 24th June 2012.
2011 30 November,
On November 30, 2011, Gints Freimanis was appointed to the Member of Board of the SJSC „Latvijas Gaisa satiksme” (LGS).Mr Freimanis will replace former Member of the Board Edmunds Kancevics. This decision was made to favour development of LGS and more effective state assets management.
2011 08 November,
The Republic of Latvia has entered Eurocontrol and has become a full member of the organisation, since January 1, 2011. The following process was technical integration and one of the stages was completed in March 10, when LGS was integrated into Eurocontrol system of Initial Integrated Flight Plan Processing System – this system states that aircraft companies from now on are obliged to send their associated messages (delays etc.) directly to the Eurocontrol. Parameters of our air space are available for Eurocontrol and we receive flight plans from the organisation.

In honour of the 20 years anniversary of SJSC “Latvijas Gaisa satiksme” (LGS) an International Conference „LGS in 20 years” took place in the hotel Radisson Blu Daugava on October 21, 2011.

As Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Norway have signed a declaration of intent for creation of the North European Functional Air Space Block a working group meeting this week took place in Helsinki on elaboration of the contract regarding political and strategic progress.
2011 12 September,
The Board of LGS made a decision to commence a certification process to receive a certificate of an ATM training services provider, as it is stated in the regulations of EU and LR. State Agency “Civil Aviation Agency” (CAA) was verifying the submitted documents as well as provided an audit in the premises of the LGS from April 18, 2011 by June 21, 2011. During the certification audit CAA came to a conclusion that the LGS Training Unit is ready to provide the given services and the quality assurance system of the enterprise is operating with a trackable evidence concerning the Training Unit.

Changes in the Cabinet Regulations No.775, from 22.09.2008 Procedures for the Preparation and Distribution of Aeronautical Information, as Cabinet Regulations No. 625 are in force since 24.08.2011.
2011 12 June,
EURASIA RVSM ATM WG/8 – the 8th working group meeting organized by International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and LGS took place in Riga on June 13-17, 2011. 26 experts of civil aviation from East European Region – Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Poland and Latvia including LGS experts and representatives of the Ministry of Transport and CAA of LR took part in this meeting.

In March 2011 the work on the electronic AIP VFR of Latvia creation was successfully completed. The new aeronautical information product was developed and produced in accordance with the EUROCONTROL eAIP specification, and for the first time was presented to aviation audience at ATC Global 2011 in Amsterdam.
